Michael Gibson
Assessment Specialist
With almost two decades experience working with contractors to grow their business, Ontario-born Michael has a unique insight into the complexities of the industry, and exactly what it takes to level up. After graduating from The University of Waterloo with an Honours Arts Degree in Applied Studies Cooperative Program (with an economics major, psychology minor, and finance specialization), Michael joined residential and commercial heating and air conditioning manufacturer Lennox as marketing coordinator. He was soon headhunted by Shell Busey’s HouseSmart Referral Network and just 8 months into that job (at the age of 25) he was promoted to GM. During those early years he discovered a deep passion for leading teams and helping contracting entrepreneurs on their growth journey. Michael went on to join HomeStars as a business development account executive and then sales manager, again guiding contractors through their growth journey.
As Assessment Specialist at BTA, Michael’s passion makes him a perfect fit for BTA and our members. He has extensive experience in all areas of the contracting business: from marketing and branding; sales; finance & accounting; as well as assisting in acquisition transitions. He draws upon his extensive experience to give contracting entrepreneurs the tools they need to grow. His down-to-earth approach is perfect for this fast-paced world.
Michael is a father of 3 girls (Libby 10, Emery 8, and Rosalee 5), so during his downtime you will find him with his wife Tara (who he met on a blind date… when blind dates weren’t really a thing) enjoying family time together on their 8 acre “compound” in Langley, B.C. Michael will happily tell you he and his family are the “World’s Worst Farmers” – he prefers to leave that to the experts, while he relaxes in his hot tub with a beer! He’s also a bit of a culinary king, having trained under a chef in a Bistro in his teens (ask him about his secret tomato sauce recipe). Great food, great company, great surroundings means his home has become a bit of a vortex… people never want to leave. Ever the adventurer, Michael loves nothing more than packing up the trailer and loading the kids in the truck for weekend adventures.
